After being in the design industry for a number of years I decided to take some time out and reassess what I wanted to do in my professional life, I have always been creative and knew whatever my next journey would be - it would need to allow me to express this part of myself. I remember reading an article about biodynamic massage and approaching the body by integrating physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual elements all together. Biodynamic massage was developed by Gerda Boyesen, a Norwegian psychologist, physiotherapist and analyst, who brought the practice to the UK. It really struck a chord with me, having had a fair amount of mental illness within my family, and recently losing my mother to mental illness I felt propelled to learn more about self healing. The core thinking at the centre of biodynamic massage is based on:
- Individuals are perceived as energetic beings - health is apparent when there is a free flow of energy in the system - Given the right circumstances individuals are believed to have the capacity to self heal and to self regulate. - Illness is regarded as being out of harmony with oneself and our surroundings. - Past and present may have a contribution to any symptom.
Finding biodynamic massage was an important pivotal moment for me, it was the start of my massage therapy journey and led me to the school of Bodyology, where I ended up training for a year.
